Stiliyan Petrov blames Celtic player for goal - but it's not Kolo Toure

By Emma Sanders

Stiliyan Petrov claims Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton was at fault for one of the goals conceded against Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday evening.

Following Brendan Rodgers’ side’s 2-0 defeat against the Bundesliga outfit, Kolo Toure attracted a lot of attention for his apparent faults.

However, Celtic were undone twice during the Champions League clash and Petrov believes Bitton deserves just as much criticism for one of the goals.

“I think Bitton could have done better. I think because he stayed back he gave the opportunity to the player to pick that pass,” Petrov told Eir Sport, as reported by HITC.

“Obviously the other two midfielders weren’t organised enough and the defenders were all over the place,” he added.

Toure sparked fury on Twitter as fans perceived the former Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal player to be at fault for both goals.

Lars Stindle opened the scoring after 57 minutes following hesitancy from Toure while trying to play the ball out from the back.

Toure was arguably at fault once again when his misplaced pass gave Andre Hahn the opportunity to drive through on goal before delivering a powerful strike into the top corner shortly after 75 minutes.

It was the first goal which Petrov felt Bitton was at fault for, as he highlighted the Israeli midfielder’s positioning was wrong.

Celtic have another Old Firm derby against Rangers this weekend and will be hoping not to make the same defensive errors again.
