Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes react to exit-linked Callum Wilson at Newcastle

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson posted on social media following their win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle knocked the Gunners out of the competition, advancing to the final with a 2-0 win on 5 February, securing a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s summer priority target, and he showed Mikel Arteta what he’s missing during the match. His early strike was ruled offside, but he played a key role in the first goal when his shot rebounded off the post into Jacob Murphy’s path, making it 1-0.

Anthony Gordon added another, just as he did in the first leg, after Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya’s misplaced pass was intercepted by Fabian Schar, allowing Gordon to tap it in.

Wilson came on as a late replacement for Isak on the night with passage to Wembley already safe.

Callum Wilson proud after Arsenal beaten in Carabao Cup

The English striker posted on Instagram following the semi-final victory, captioning his post: “Proud of the team last night!! Onto Wembley.”

Teammates Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman showed their support by commenting with emojis on his post.

Football Insider revealed in December that Newcastle do not plan to offer Wilson a new deal, citing concerns over his ongoing fitness issues.

The 32-year-old has missed 29 games this season and was sidelined for 28 games last season. As a result, Eddie Howe’s team are now considering other options in the forward position.

Newcastle are lining up a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who will be available on a free transfer this summer as his contract expires.

Alexander Isak remains the Newcastle talisman

Football Insider Verdict

Wilson’s gesture of support for the club is a nice touch, especially given that fans have rarely seen him feature in recent seasons. Despite the speculation surrounding his potential departure, the fact that players continue to show their appreciation suggests he’s still well-liked within the squad.

The Englishman hasn’t been missed though, thanks to Isak’s exceptional performances this season. The Swede has scored 19 goals and created five assists in just 27 games and has been crucial to the Magpies’ push for a trophy and a European spot this season.

Despite the interest from the Gunners, Newcastle are planning to offer Isak a record-breaking contract. On the other hand, it seems as if the club have had enough patience with Wilson and are willing to let him go.
