Beijing Renhe are set to table a fifth bid for Alfredo Morelos that would smash Rangers’ transfer record if it was accepted, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim the super-rich Chinese outfit are preparing to lodge a new offer of £11million after their four previous bids were knocked back by the Glasgow giants.
It is said that the latest offer will incorporate the entire fee being paid up front and will be the final one from Beijing Renhe as it is to be submitted on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.
The Chinese Super League club are determined to land the Colombian before the transfer window shuts in China on 28 February.
The Scottish Sun report that they are prepared to hand Morelos a massive wage hike which will take his salary beyond the £30,000-a-week mark.
Morelos has scored 15 goals from 30 appearances this season after signing from Finnish club HJK Helsinki last summer for around £1million.
Football Insider Verdict:
Intriguingly, Rangers’ stance that the striker will not be sold until the end of the season at least is reportedly about to shift as a result of Beijing Renhe’s willingness to pay the full £11million fee in one up front payment. This has now reached the point where Rangers should take the money and run. Morelos is a promising player and could eventually develop into a very good one, but £11million up front for such a raw talent is a jawdropping sum. Moreover, it would also smash the club’s record sale, which is the £9million from Tottenham in January 2008 for right-back Allan Hutton. If Mark Allen can secure a minimum £11million for Morelos, plus with power to add from performance related add-ons, it should fill fans with hope that he is a negotiator who knows what he is doing. How Rangers have needed someone shrewd in the boardroom following so many wretched deals in recent years.
