Everton are close to completing a loan deal for Manchester City’s defender Elaquim Mangala according to a report.
The Telegraph claim in their transfer blog (2.32pm), that Mangala is now expected to move to Everton on loan for the rest of the season.
It is also thought that this will include a provision to make the deal permanent in the summer.
This will end Newcastle’s reported interest in Mangala after Benitez was heavily linked with a loan move for the 26-year-old centre-back.
Sky Sports had credited Newcastle and Valencia with interest in the player but it looks like Sam Allaradyce is about to land his man.

Football Insider verdict:
Man City manager Per Guardiola was talking Mangala up so much in his pre-match conference that a lot of pundits thought he might be staying at the Etihad. That doesn’t look like being the case and it seems that Everton are going to be the beneficiaries. Mangala can still do a great job in the Premier League and could sign on a permanent deal for the club if things work out. As for Newcastle, it’s another deal that they’ve missed out on as they have to watch other clubs snap up their main targets.
In other Everton transfer news, a fringe figure is set for a deadline day exit to a top-eight side.
