‘This is an amazing signing’ – Calvert-Lewin next after latest Rangers deal agreed
Rangers have confirmed an “amazing” addition to their squad ahead of their upcoming Scottish Premiership campaign.
New manager Russell Martin is in the midst of strengthening his ranks before his first season in charge at Ibrox.
Last week (15 July), Rangers announced the signing of Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday on a four-year deal.
The Gers have reportedly got their hands on the former PSG winger for just £2.2million.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the final price was way lower than what he had expected, and that Rangers have got themselves a superb deal.

‘Rangers are missing a goalscorer – I’m worried’
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that despite having a good window so far, he is “worried” that Martin hasn’t brought in a goalscorer.
Rangers have been linked with Jamie Vardy, after the striker departed Leicester following the expiration of his contract.
Wyness added that both Vardy and Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be good options up front for the Glasgow giants.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Gassama is an amazing signing at £2.2m. That’s way lower than I expected. I’d have thought certainly between £5m and £10m would have been the right sort of price.
“But we all know that the issues that Sheffield Wednesday have got and the way that they’ve got to get some cash in.
“I love the people Rangers have brought in so far. I’ve got the list and have been looking at it. Aasgaard, Fernandez, Gassama. I think Joe Rothwell has been a great signing. Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga are very good squad-strengthening signings.
“What is missing is the Jamie Vardy-type fairy dust, the striker up front. There have been a couple of players who could do really well for them up front.
“I thought even Dominic Calvert-Lewin could have come to Rangers and reinvented himself and been a superhero up there. That’s what I’m worried about is the goals up front now.”

Rangers to battle Celtic for teenage sensation
Meanwhile, Rangers and Celtic are set to battle it out to sign Serbian star Andrej Bacanin, sources have told Football Insider.
The 18-year-old is expected to leave Serbian Super League side FK Cukaricki this summer, with a number of big European teams interested.
Sources say that the Glasgow pair lead the race for Bacanin but will have to fend off interest from the likes of Ajax and Udinese to secure his signature.
Both Rangers and Celtic have a good chance of making a deal happen, and it will come down to who can win the bidding war for the midfielder.
