27 goals in 40 games: Three in-form Serie A attackers Tottenham should sign this summer
COMMENT By Will Butcher
Tottenham could be set to enter the summer transfer window for attacking reinforcements as they look to go one better in the Champions League next term.
Moussa Sissoko and Georges N’Koudou could both leave Spurs after struggling to have an impact in north London since arriving in the summer of 2016.
If the duo are shipped out by Pochettino, here are three in-form stars from Italy’s top flight that could, and should, be identified to replace the flop duo.
Dries Mertens – Napoli

His bite in front of goal was proven perfectly during Napoli’s 3-2 Coppa Italia win over Juventus. Coming off the bench in the 61st minute, the Belgium international found himself on the score sheet within a matter of seconds as he pounced on an error made by goalkeeper Neto. His ability to read the game and precision with both feet has made him one of Europe’s hottest talents, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2018. That could see him jump ship this summer, and after after scoring 27 in 40 games this season, his goals from anywhere in the front three could prove crucial in Spurs’ Champions League campaign and Premier League title push next season.
Keita Balde – Lazio
The speed machine has finally realised his potential this season, combining maturity and experience with rapid speed and raw talent in front of goal. Playing from the left wing, the 22-year-old has had a hand in 12 goals during his 28 league and cup appearances for Simone Inzaghi’s side, as he begins to prove he can show composure when given the chance. With only a year left to run on his current contract with Lazio, the 12-time Senegal international could be brought to White Hart Lane to replace Sissoko and N’Koudou in a cut-price deal with Lazio likely to want to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
Suso – AC Milan
The former Liverpool ace is not as known for his goals like the other two stars. However, his ability to lay on a goal for a teammate could bring the best out of the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min as the trio continue to fire Spurs towards the summit of the Premier League. Having a player that can split a defence and turn a game on its head, instead of N’Koudou and Sissoko warming the bench, may prove to be the difference between Spurs finishing second or first. With 11 assists and seven goals this season The Mirror reports that Suso has already attracted the interest of Spurs.
