Three Premier League clubs who must target Evan Ferguson as Brighton loanee could return in January

Premier League clubs should be on high alert as Evan Ferguson continues to struggle on loan away from Brighton.

According to Sky Sports (11 December), the 21-year-old striker could see his loan deal cut short next month, having scored just one goal in 14 appearances for AS Roma.

Ferguson was on loan at West Ham for the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, where he played just eight games, having also been linked with several other top-flight clubs last season.

While the young striker now has more experience under his belt, Danny Welbeck is firing on all cylinders for Brighton, so it is unlikely that Fabian Hurzeler would welcome him back into the squad.

With that in mind, there are several Premier League clubs who could use his services up front.

Nottingham Forest

Sean Dyche will be hoping to avoid a relegation battle with Nottingham Forest, and to do so, another striker signing could be acquired during the January transfer window.

Taiwo Awoniyi has failed to impress, while Igor Jesus has starred in spurts, and Arnaud Kalimuendo has yet to fully adapt to life in England, scoring just once in his first 11 games.

Chris Wood remains on the sidelines for Forest, so a move for Ferguson on a six-month deal could make sense for both parties next month.

West Ham

Although Ferguson struggled for game time under Graham Potter during his spell at the London Stadium last season, he could see West Ham as a chance to redeem himself in the Premier League.

Niclas Fullkrug is set to leave West Ham, and while Callum Wilson has been in good form, he cannot be relied upon to play every minute due to his extensive injury record.

Nuno Espirito Santo would likely welcome a player of Ferguson’s calibre, given his work ethic, ability on the ball, and willingness to chase the ball. It could be the perfect fit.

Tottenham

While this is certainly a wildcard shout, Tottenham have real problems in the striker department, mainly due to extensive injuries.

Dominic Solanke remains on the sidelines. Richarlison could be one kick away from injury. And Randal Kolo Muani, while fans love him, has been extremely inconsistent.

Given the rumours surrounding Thomas Frank‘s future, it seems unlikely that the hierarchy would give him millions to spend on a new striker next month, so a short loan deal for Ferguson would make sense.
