Aston Villa fans heaped praise on Josh Onomah for his role in their side’s 2-1 win against Sunderland on Tuesday night, despite Steve Bruce believing the youngster struggled in the game.

Onomah, who is on loan from Tottenham, scored the Villans’ second goal of the game, which ultimately ensured they got all three points.

Fans were happy with the midfielder’s contribution praising him on Twitter, however speaking after the game Bruce said the midfielder “struggled” and found it “difficult.”

Despite that, Bruce kept him on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and fans thought he put in a decent shift.

The attacking midfielder has been a key member of Aston Villa’s side this season, missing only two league games, both of which the Villans failed to win.

In total during his loan spell at the club, he has featured 17 times across all competitions, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

The midfielder, before being loaned to Aston Villa season, had previously seen some first team action at Spurs, having played 32 games across all competitions since the 2014/15 season.

Despite Villans fans’ pleas, the talented youngster is set to return to Tottenham when his loan deal finishes at the end of the season, with the 20-year-old contracted to the club until 2021.
