'Top talent', 'The future' - Newcastle fans react to Woodman Under-20s World Cup final display

By Harvey Byrne

Newcastle fans on Twitter have given their praise to youngster Freddie Woodman after an outstanding display in the Under-20s World Cup final.

It has been a brilliant summer for the England youth team this summer and while the seniors were held to a 2-2 draw against Scotland on Saturday the Under-20s showed how it was done with a 1-0 win in South Korea against Venezuela.

Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the all important goal with his strike in the first half proving the decisive winner.

However, youngster Woodman was also pivotal in helping his team keep a clean sheet and even saved a penalty in the second half.

It was a fine performance from the Newcastle youngster, who many have tipped for success already and after Sunday’s win Toon fans were only more willing to post their hopes for the 20-year-old shot-stopper.

Here are are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Woodman has never played for the Newcastle first team with all of his senior experience to date coming in loan moves with Crawley and Kilmarnock respectively.

He is still contracted to the north east giants until 2020 and while it is doubtful he will come into the team in the Premier League, he will certainly be looking for an opportunity in the future.

In other Newcastle news, the Toon are the current favourites to land this 23-year-old Premier League champion.
