Tottenham backed to sign Hugo Lloris replacement who will go straight into starting XI - expert

Alan Hutton has suggested Dean Henderson will only join Tottenham if he replaces Hugo Lloris.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender said joining the Lilywhites would be a better option for Henderson than a permanent deal at Nottingham Forest, but only if he is the number one goalkeeper.

On 29 April, sources told this site that the 26-year-old now considers a return to Man United ‘impossible’ and is expected to leave the club permanently.

United are in advanced talks with current keeper David de Gea over a new contract and Henderson has no intention of returning to Old Trafford to wait in the wings.

Forest are set to offer Henderson a permanent deal but only if they avoid relegation this season.

Tottenham are huge admirer’s of the shot stopper and are in the market for a long-term replacement for current number one Lloris.

When asked if Spurs would be a better option than a permanent deal at Forest, Hutton told Football Insider:It would definitely be a better option.

You would rather be at a team at the top end of the league than the bottom.

It will come down to is he being bought for number one? Is that where they see him being or is he a backup? Is he there to push Lloris or is Lloris moving on? So it really falls into that category.

He will want to play football. We thought he was going to take over from De Gea at Man United, that did not work. It is all about playing for him now, he is ready for it.

So if he is going to be number one I think you would choose Tottenham.
