Paul Robinson has claimed “it would be great” if Tottenham manage to offload Serge Aurier to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 28-year-old has been “very poor” defensively and suggested now is the right time to “upgrade”.
Aurier has been Tottenham’s first-choice right-back for the majority of the 2020-21 campaign, with 27 appearances to his name across all competitions.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday that the London club have accepted a bid from PSG for the defender’s services with a long-term contract on the table for the player.
The right-back is fast approaching the final 12 months of his contract at Spurs and the club are willing to let him go rather than lose him on a free next year.
When asked by Football Insider for his verdict on Aurier potentially re-joining PSG, Robinson said: “Defensively Serge Aurier has been very poor.
“Around Christmas time I thought he was going in January. Serge Aurier was a player that they tried to offload on multiple occasions and if they can get anything like what they paid for him it would be great.
“Spurs need to strengthen, especially in defence, so if they can raise some funds from his sale they could sign an upgrade.
“A lot of players futures will ride on who the next manager is so the sooner someone is appointed, the better.”
