Tottenham are eyeing a swoop for Hull City defender Harry Maguire this summer, according to a report.
The Evening Standard claim that Spurs are planning a £15million summer bid for the 24-year-old as he enters the final year of his contract.
It is said that Maguire’s wages are believed to be £25,000 per week, which might be regarded as an easily manageable demand for a club of Tottenham’s stature.
The Standard report that scouts from the north London club have been impressed with the performances of Maguire during his central role in Hull’s survival bid.
Maguire is comfortable playing in a back-three and a back-four and has been a mainstay of the Tigers’ defence this term, having made 33 appearances in all competitions for the side.
A former Sky Sports reporter also states that Spurs are interested in Michael Keane and Ben Gibson, along with Maguire, as they look to replace Wimmer.
Football Insider verdict
Maguire has certainly been one of the surprises of the season for this strong defensive performances in a struggling Hull side. The reason that Spurs may opt for him over Keane, who was previously believed to be their number one target, could be the price. Maguire’s contract is up in 2018 and he will be available for a bargain price of £15million, whereas Mauricio Pochettino would likely face competition for Keane’s signature – so his price could well be bumped up. With Wimmer seemingly on the way out, Maguire could be a key signing for Spurs.
