Tottenham have been presented with a huge chance to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial in the summer transfer window with Jose Mourinho reportedly set to let the Frenchman exit Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail has reported that Martial, 22, is one of a number of players who will be offloaded by Man United after their 1-0 defeat to West Brom at home on Sunday clinched the Premier League title for bitter rivals Manchester City.
That has now left the door open for Mauricio Pochettino to finally land one of his transfer targets after French news outlet RMC Sport reported in February that Spurs were looking to sign him after contract talks stalled.
Martial will enter the final year of his contract at Man United in the summer and that presents Spurs with a massive chance to bolster their attacking talent by signing up the 18-times France international.
The 22-year-old would offer something much more different in attack if Pochettino wants to use him as a back-up centre-forward to Harry Kane.
Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen have been poor second-choices in the last two seasons so it is about time that Pochettino tries something new with his striker options.
Martial has proved that he can hit the target in the Premier League and there’s a good chance that Man United will not value him too highly in the summer to avoid losing him for free a year later.
The Daily Star has reported that the ex-Monaco ace earns £65,000-a-week in his deal at Old Trafford, so that should not put him out of Daniel Levy’s league when it comes to contract negotiations.
Spurs will surely have to move fast though as other clubs are bound to be interested in the French forward.
In other Tottenham news, this key midfielder is a major doubt for Spurs’ FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United.
