Hutton moots new role for Son amid Tottenham transfer latest
Tottenham talisman Son Heung-Min will take on a new role as the club’s chief leader if Harry Kane and Gareth Bale depart this summer.
That is according to ex-Spurs right-back Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed that Tottenham are “confident” of keeping Son in the upcoming window.
The South Korean forward’s deal expires in 2023 and he has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, on-loan Bale looks set to return to Real Madrid and Kane has expressed his desire to quit, as Football Insider first revealed back in April.
Hutton claimed that if Son also stays, the 28-year-old will become the club’s new de facto leader.
He told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “They need to be really cautious. It’s going to be a very interesting summer for Tottenham.
“As we sit here right now, I think Harry Kane will leave. They’ve got no manager. I think Bale will go back to Spain.
“So he [Son] will come back in pre-season and the top players might have gone. So it’s kind of going to be down to Son then.
“He’ll be the leader in the team. There will be a lot weight on his shoulders to produce.
“There will probably have to be a conversation between Son and the new manager coming in about what direction the club is going in.
“They’ve gone backwards. If I was one of the top players in that squad I’d want to know what direction the club will be going in.”
