Tottenham: Igor Tudor one game away from sack ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Igor Tudor is one game away from being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur as pressure on his position remains high despite a recent turnaround in form, sources have told Football Insider.

Tudor’s side followed up on their 1-1 draw against Liverpool by beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 in midweek, despite being eliminated from the Champions League.

They will now face a relegation six-pointer at home against Nottingham Forest, where a defeat would see them drop further towards the Premier League’s bottom three.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Spurs are taking Tudor’s future game by game as they continue to assess his position.

The interim boss’ future will largely depend on Spurs’ league performance, and failure to move away from the relegation zone with see Tottenham look for a new manager.

Tudor was expected to be sacked if Spurs had lost to Liverpool, but a draw at Anfield saw him given a stay of execution, and decisions will now be made game-by-game.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Look, for Tudor right now, it’s game by game for him and Tottenham.

“The speculation over his future isn’t going to go away. If things didn’t go well for Tudor and Tottenham on Sunday, that’ll just ramp up even more.

“Right now, if Tudor can continue on this upward curve it’ll obviously give him a great chance to stay in charge until the end of season.

“A win for Tottenham would be huge for them and move them further clear of Forest, but a defeat and we’ll be back to the starting point again.

“For Spurs and Tudor right now they’re just taking game by game and hopefully the outcome of the Forest game will have a huge bearing on this future.”

Who will become the next Tottenham manager?

Despite pressure building on Tudor’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the plan remains to look for a new manager come the end of the season.

Much will depend on whether Spurs can survive the relegation battle, but they are assessing candidates including the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 19 March that De Zerbi is the favourite for Tottenham given his Premier League experience.

De Zerbi was sacked by French club Marseille in February after 19 months in charge and would be prepared to come in immediately at the end of the season.

Talks are already believed to be taking place with multiple candidates, although a decision will not be made until their Premier League status is secure.
