Tottenham may be set for mass overhaul as European goal machine joins ever-growing list
COMMENT
Tottenham fans will be hoping that their attention remains on the current campaign instead of next season for as long as possible, considering there could be a piece of silverware come the end.
The Lilywhites are still in the hunt for the FA Cup, having reached the semi-finals for a second successive year, while they still need to nail down a top four finish come May, something that they could take a major jump towards with victory over fellow rival Chelsea this weekend.
The longer that Spurs have something to fight for, the less time they will have to think about the summer transfer window – a time which the club’s recent history suggests will require plenty of patience considering how late they have left their business.
However, that has not stopped Tottenham from already being linked with a number of potential targets come the summer, and there is a growing trend among those named as a focus for Mauricio Pochettino.
The majority are central midfielders, with sources from all across Europe linking Spurs with moves for some of the top central talents.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have claimed midfield enforcer Amadou Diawara is a target, respected German source Bild state Tottenham are eyeing Werder Bremen’s Thomas Delaney, the Mirror insist Norwich City’s James Maddison is another potential recruit while the latest link is from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, who name Sporting CP’s midfield goal machine Bruno Fernandes as another viewed for a move to north London.
So what does it mean for Pochettino’s current stars?
All of the aforementioned names operate in slightly different positions and have different attributes to each other, meaning they could all step into the Tottenham side and replace at least one man already in the senior squad.
It could be that the manager is building an ever-growing shortlist in case any of his players do leave, but a mass overhaul could also be on the cards.
While Spurs fans might still have both eyes on the current campaign, the club’s summer plans should be catching their attention, with major changes a possibility.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are at the centre of a senior outcast urging his loan side to stab his parent club in the back.
