Tottenham will sell Sanchez at a 'big' loss after latest update - pundit

Tottenham will have to take a “big” financial hit by selling Davinson Sanchez this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker admitted the 24-year-old had been a risky signing that had failed to pay off.

As revealed by Football Insider, Tottenham are planning to offload Sanchez regardless of who takes charge as manager.

It is understood Tottenham have set sights on signing a super-quick defender to compensate for the squad’s current weaknesses.

Sanchez joined for £42million-plus in 2017 but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in north London.

Whelan admitted the Colombia international had been a big-money gamble.

“I don’t think it’s worked out for him at all,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“Managers have tried, even Pochettino, he was looking to go out on loan at one point when he wasn’t being played. Three managers now have seen enough and realised that despite the fee, he’s not good enough.

“They’re going to have to take a big hit. I’m sure he will get a club but it’s not going to be for what they paid. Sometimes that’s the risk that you take with players after one good competition.

“When you look at certain players and they do well for their national side, I think that’s what it was with Tottenham. They saw him play, they’ve gone and got him but it’s not worked out, unfortunately.

“You’ve got to learn from that. You’ve got to make sure that you bring in the right person, the right character, someone who can fit in.

“Also someone is going to hit the heights to improve the team and he’s not managed that.”

Sanchez has played 148 times across all competitions for Spurs since joining from Ajax.

However, he has not featured in the Lilywhites’ last six league games this term.

In other news, Jose Mourinho is planning on raiding Tottenham for “phenomenal” midfielder this summer.
