One of the most consistent players at Rangers this season, Declan John is current out of action at the moment with a groin injury, and after seeing the performance of his replacement Andy Halliday against Falkirk, fans will be hoping that John returns against Celtic on Sunday.
To be fair to Halliday he isn’t a natural full-back but was forced into action as both John and the other left-back at the club Lee Wallace still isn’t fit, so Graeme Murty had to use Halliday in that position in the Scottish Cup tie.
The worrying thing for the Gers is that Halliday could well be up against Celtic’s in-form winger James Forrest in the derby, which could prove a task too far for him, which is why the return of John is so important.
The Welshman, who made his loan move from Cardiff permanent in January, has been a vital part of the team in the Light Blues’ recent run, having played 25 times this season and becoming a first-team regular.
The wing back area will be a key part of the game, and Celtic might have the likes of Kieran Tierney, Patrick Roberts and Forrest running at the Gers at times, which is why it is so vital that John returns in time for the top of the table clash.
