'We know...' - Exclusive: Bent fears for Rangers after Ryan Kent contract reveal

Ryan Kent may turn down a new Rangers contract because he could “double his money” in the Premier League, according to Darren Bent.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker delivered his verdict after Leeds United submitted multiple bids for the midfielder this summer.

This site revealed last week that Rangers are set to open contract talks with the Kent to fend off Leeds’ interest.

The club are willing to make him one of their highest earners and are set to offer him more than £28,000-a-week, their baseline for high earners.

The 23-year-old penned a £20,000-a-week four-year contract with a £20million release clause when he joined the club permanently last summer.

Despite a potential new offer, Bent believes the lure of the Premier League could be too strong for Kent.

“We know what it’s like,” Bent told Football Insider.

“The money in the Premier League is a lot bigger than the money in the Scottish Premier League and that’s where the difficulty lies.

“He might get a contract at Rangers that might be a good contract but he knows that he can potentially double his money in the Premier League and it’s the most coveted league in the world.

“For Ryan, if he doesn’t get the move, it’s one of the biggest clubs in world football under an exciting young manager in Steven Gerrard, he’s one of the main men so it’s still an exciting prospect, playing in that league at that club.

“It’s not the be-all and end-all if he doesn’t get the move because this season it could be the time they upset Celtic and go and win the league.”
