'We're going to win the league' - Newcastle fans react on Twitter as attacker reportedly nears move

By Derek Smithson

Newcastle have reportedly agreed a fee with Norwich for attacker Jacob Murphy – and the club’s supporters have responded with mixed feelings to the news.

Telegraph correspondent John Percy revealed on his personal Twitter account that the two clubs have reached an agreement of a £12.5million fee for the winger.

The 22-year-old has been on the radar of Rafael Benitez’s side so far in the transfer window and they appear to made a significant stride to signing him.

Some Newcastle fans have voiced their concern about the big price tag for a player that has never played in the Premier League before.

Meanwhile, other supporters are ecstatic about Murphy’s potential arrival and one joked that the North East club could go on to win the league.

Murphy looks set to earn his big move to the Premier League and Newcastle prepare for their return to the top flight.

The right winger is fresh off the back of an impressive summer with England’s Under-21s side where he helped them reach the semi-finals of the European Championships.

He is blessed with great pace and trickery, something which helped him standout in the Championship last season for Norwich.

Murphy showed his qualities at Carrow Road by scoring nine goals and supplying 10 assists in 40 games last season for the Championship side.

The Englishman would be competing alongside the likes of Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Rolando Aarons if he completes a move to St James’ Park.

In other Newcastle transfer news, they are interested in signing a 27-year-old attacker from La Liga.
