'Conference standard', 'Shambolic' - West Ham fans destroy midfielder in loss v Everton

West Ham fans have turned to social media to lay into the performance of midfielder Pedro Obiang during the club’s 4-0 thrashing by Everton on Wednesday night.

The Hammers arrived at Goodison Park on the back of a 1-1 draw with Leicester City in their last outing, while the Toffees had been swept past by Southampton in a 4-1 mauling.

However it was the home side who appeared the more confident of the pair and took the lead thanks to a Wayne Rooney goal which came after he saw his original penalty saved by Joe Hart, the culprit in conceding the spot kick.

Rooney doubled the lead just before half time after some disappointing West Ham defending, although the Hammers had the chance to halve the deficit when Diafra Sakho was fouled in the box.

However Manuel Lanzini’s strike was saved by Jordan Pickford, and Rooney went on the complete his hat trick with a sublime strike from his own half, before Ashley Williams rounded off the scoring.

One man who had to watch the second half from the substitutes’ bench was Pedro Obiang, who was axed at half time after having started the clash, and supporters were less than happy with what they saw in his 45 minutes.

They turned to Twitter to destroy his display, with many suggesting that the club need to ship him out in as soon as possible.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

Obiang has 10 league appearances under his belt for the Hammers this season, having scored once in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

In other West Ham news, fans were raging over the display of another star in the defeat.
