West Ham idol ‘so ashamed’ of the club after what David Sullivan has done

David Sullivan and West Ham have been disrespectful to David Moyes throughout the managerial saga surrounding his position at the London Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie insisted that the club should have handled the process differently after widespread coverage of their search for a new boss.

Both Julen Lopetegui and Ruben Amorim had publicly held talks with the club, something McAvennie insisted should have been kept under wraps, telling the board that they should “have a bit of respect” for Moyes.

This comes after Football Insider reported that Lopetegui had been offered the manager’s job before Moyes was confirmed to be leaving the club this summer via the official West Ham website.

McAvennie fumes at West Ham board after David Moyes sack

McAvennie revealed he is “ashamed” of the way the club has navigated this process, labelling them “embarrassing” and “disrespectful” – although he was not shocked that Moyes would be leaving this summer.

I’m so ashamed of West Ham at the moment because of what happened,” he told Football Insider.

I don’t care that David spoke to Mr Sullivan, I’m not too fussed about it. The fact of the matter is, West Ham could have done it differently.

Why do other clubs speak to people and it’s never in the papers, yet when West Ham speak to somebody it’s all over the place?

I think it’s so disrespectful to the manager that’s in there now, no matter whether people want him to stay or not.

What the club have done to him… just have a bit of respect. It’s embarrassing.

I get Mr Sullivan coming out and saying this now, I don’t mind him saying David isn’t staying, but to advertise in the paper that you’re speaking to this manager and that manager is so disrespectful.

I think the board has been so disrespectful, it lacks class. West Ham is a big club, have a bit of respect for the guy. I’m really disappointed.”
