Darren Bent has been left head over heels as Diogo Jota closes in on a £45million move to Liverpool from Wolves.

The former Aston Villa and Tottenham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Portuguese attacker will offer a great backup option to the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

As detailed by Football Insider, the 23-year-old is set for a medical on Merseyside after the two clubs agreed an initial £41million fee, which could rise to £45million in add-ons.

Bent admits he is a huge fan of the former Atletico Madrid man and believes he will be an upgrade on the other attacking squad players at Anfield.

Bent told Football Insider: “He’s always the first signing I get through the door on Football Manager. What a signing he is.

“That again came out the blue but that is what I call strength in depth. I think Jota is a top player, he showed for Wolves he’s a top player and I think as well, if one of them gets injured, Mane, Salah, someone like that, I think they’ve got someone now where the drop off is not that much.

“We’ve seen Jota play at a very high level so it won’t make that much of a difference to be fair so I think it’s a great, great signing for Liverpool.”

Jota scored 16 times and chipped in with six assists across all competitions for Wolves last season.

He has a total of 67 Premier League appearances to his name.
