Whelan Exclusive: West Ham signing sticks out 'like a sore thumb'
Noel Whelan has claimed that Jarrod Bowen will be a “fantastic” signing for West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United man delivered a highly praising verdict on the Hammers’ newest addition, and claimed that he has what it takes to be a big success in the top flight.
The 23-year-old winger signed for the Irons on a five-and-a-half on deadline day, completing a switch from Championship side Hull City.
And Whelan believes that it’s an ideal move for both the player and his new club.
“He’s a great player, there’s no doubt about that,” he told Football Insider.
“He stuck out like a sore thumb playing for Hull for a number of seasons now. He was their top scorer this season from a wide area.

“We all know how he likes to play, off the shoulder, got great pace, got great feet, can manipulate the ball, can set up people. He’s intelligent on the ball with his decision making and I think he’s a great fit for West Ham.
“I think they’ll really be excited to have this player once he settles in and shows everybody what he can do.
“No wonder other clubs were looking at him – it just surprises me that it’s take so long for a Premier League club to actually buy him. I think he’ll be fantastic.
“They need more players like that.”
Bowen was not in the squad for the Hammers’ 3-3 draw against Brighton on Saturday afternoon – a game that saw them blow a 3-1 lead and ultimately have to hang on for a share of the spoils.
Prior to his move to east London, Bowen had hit 16 goals and six assists in 29 Championship outings for the Tigers.
