Whelan verdict on Harry Kane u-turn after unexpected Tottenham manager update
Appointing Mauricio Pochettino is not enough to keep Harry Kane at Tottenham, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Pochettino would need to be a “wizard” to get Kane to stay.
As revealed by Football Insider, Spurs have made contact with Pochettino over a return to north London, although there is growing pessimism over a potential deal.
Football Insider broke the news in April that the England captain had told friends he wants to quit Spurs this summer.
Pochettino is currently the boss of PSG but spent six years with Spurs before being sacked in November 2019.
The Argentine led the club to a first Champions League final where they were beaten by Liverpool.

Whelan claims Kane would still leave if Pochettino was appointed as Tottenham have no chance of winning the league next season.
“Pochettino is a great manager, he’s not a wizard,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“I’m not being funny, I’m being serious. There’s no way Tottenham are winning the Premier League.
“That’s the question Harry Kane will be asking. Are Tottenham going to win the league next season? If you ask one million people that question, they all say no.
“What does Kane want to achieve in his career? He wants to win the big trophies. The Premier League is one of them.
“Even if Tottenham get into the Champions League, are they going to win it? No.”
Kane finished the recently concluded season as the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
He also picked up more assists than anyone else during a remarkable personal campaign.
