Why Newcastle should plot summer raid for this Tottenham first teamer
By Derek Smithson
Newcastle should consider making a move for Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm this summer.
The 33-year-old is an important member of the Spurs dressing room and made 11 senior appearances last season, but unfortunately was behind top-class shot stopper Hugo Lloris in the pecking order.
The Evening Standard report that the north London club will allow Vorm to leave in the transfer window if they can secure a permanent deal for their target Pau Lopez from Espanyol.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez appears to be in the market for a new goalkeeper and had reportedly agreed a deal with Napoli’s number one Pepe Reina.
However, the players’ agent Manuel Garcia Auilon has crushed the speculation by stating that Reina will remain with his Italian club until the end of 2018.

The Magpies already have the likes of Karl Darlow, Matz Sees and Rob Elliot at their disposal, but it appears they want a proven top-flight performer next season.
The north-east club are preparing for their return to the Premier League and Vorm would be the perfect number one to help them avoid a relegation battle.
The Holland international has made just 32 appearances during his time with Spurs, but there are not many that could dislodge Lloris from the starting line-up.
However, he could easily start for most sides in the Premier League and proved his qualities during his time with former club Swansea.
Vorm has proved that he is very able in possession and is also a brilliant shot stopper.
Benitez should seriously consider a move for the experienced goalkeeper with his future at Spurs in doubt.
In other Newcastle transfer news, they have made contact for a La Liga defender wth an £8.7million release clause.
