William Osula responds to Fabrizio Romano amid agreed Anthony Elanga to Newcastle deal

Newcastle United’s William Osula has shared his feelings about the Toon agreeing a deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

After two bids were previously rejected, Newcastle found a breakthrough in their pursuit of Elanga, where the Swedish international will link up with Osula on Tyneside.

Osula appeared only 19 times for the club last season, scoring just two goals in all competitions after joining from Sheffield United last summer.

The striker has been behind Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson in the pecking order at St James’ Park, although with the latter now departed following the expiry of his contract, Osula may be handed more opportunities next season.

Osula excited to link up with Elanga

Fabrizio Romano took to social media (7 July) to report a £55million deal had been agreed between Newcastle and Forest for the transfer of Elanga.

Romano stated personal terms have also been agreed, meaning Elanga should be confirmed as a Newcastle player soon.

Osula was delighted by the announcement, liking the post and commenting to show his approval of the deal.

Elanga faces stiff Murphy competition

Football Insider Verdict

Eddie Howe looks to have finally finalised a move for one of his top targets, and it seems to have gone down well with members of his squad.

The Toon should be excited by the arrival of Elanga who will bring more pace and energy down the right flank.

The 23-year-old was a standout performer for Forest last season with his ability to lead counter-attacks and terrify defences a key reason why Nuno Espirito Santos’ defensive approach worked.

Elanga will see more of the ball at Newcastle as Howe prefers to be on the front foot with an attacking approach.

The former Manchester United prospect will have to hit the ground running and prove his worth as Jacob Murphy is ready to start if required.

Murphy has emerged as a consistent performer under Howe and he will not want to relinquish his place in the side without a fight after appearing 41 times for the club last season and contributing nine goals and 14 assists.

Added depth though is important following qualification back to the Champions League and the club’s ambition to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
