Sources: Wolves line up landmark hire after Julen Lopetegui green light
New Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui wants to bring in his own recruitment team ahead of the January window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League club are overhauling their set-up following the appointment of the Spaniard as they try to escape relegation.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on Friday night (18 November) that Wolves have sacked technical director Scott Sellars and he is now locked in talks with the club over a pay-off.
Lopetegui is believed to be pushing for Wolves to appoint a technical director he knows and can work closely with going into what is likely to be a pivotal January window.
The 56-year-old – who has previously managed Real Madrid and Sevilla as well as the Spanish national team – was named as Burno Lage’s successor at Wolves earlier this month.
His first competitive match in charge will be against Gillingham at Molineux in the last 16 of the League Cup.
But Lopetegui will have the chance to become familiar with his players, or at least those not going to the World Cup, over the course of three friendly matches in Marbella during the mid-season break.
Wolves are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just 10 points after 15 matches.
The club spent in excess of £120million in the summer, with a negative net spend of close to £77m.
But their signings have so far failed to have the desired impact.
