Wood better than senior duo: Three things we learned about Sheff Wed from loss v Leeds
By Amir Mir
Football Insider analyses the three talking points after Sheffield Wednesday are beaten 1-0 by Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
More pace needed in attack
One aspect of the Sheffield Wednesday team that needs pace is in the final third. Carlos Carvalhal has built a very strong and energetic squad. But, they need more impetuous up top if they are to hurt the opposition, in particular, away from home. The likes of Jordan Rhodes are very good poachers in the box, even though the on-loan man didn’t score, he wasn’t provided the service. More pace on the wings or through the middle will give poachers such as Rhodes, Winall, and Fletcher more space to do their work.
Leeds will claim the last play-off spot
At this moment in time, Garry Monk’s team are nine points ahead of those outside the play-off places, largely thanks to the three points against their Yorkshire rivals. As a result, Wednesday are six points above seventh-placed Fulham, but they have played two games more. Norwich, Aston Villa and Reading await Carvahal’s side for three of the next four matches and it won’t be a surprise if they drop out of the top six during that period. Furthermore, this period could see Wednesday finish outside the promotion places at the end of the season and Leeds claiming the final spot.

Wood’s better than Wednesday’s senior duo
Albeit it came from a mistake, when Whites striker Chris Wood’s was given the opportunity to score, like any top forward, he took the chance and helped his team secure all three points. This could not be said of Wednesday, with Rhodes missing a costly penalty in the second half. Not only that, Fernando Forestieri produced a poor display and was unable to get through Monk’s defensive line. Sky Sports pundit Scott Minto claimed before the game that Wednesday’s attackers had more quality than their rivals. However, as proven today, Wood is better than the Wednesday’s senior attacking duo.
In other Sheffield Wednesday news, this Leeds attacker was 4/10 during win against Wednesday.
