Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons believes that if Steven Gerrard becomes Rangers manager it would be huge for Scottish football, but he thinks that just like any other manager he will be judged on his results.
Gerrard is the widely-reported favourite for the Gers job, and Commons believes that what he has achieved in the game will only add viewers to the Scottish game.
“Steven Gerrard’s a blockbuster, a worldwide brand, if you live in America or South America you put the television on, you want to see the impact he’s got, but he will be judged on results,” Commons said on Sky Sports Football, before the derby clash at Celtic Park.
If Gerrard does get the job at Ibrox he will go up against his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who of course is the boss at Celtic Park.
Football Insider verdict
Commons is correct about Gerrard’s appointment, it would be massive for Scottish football if a football man of his repute gets the job, but as he also claims the man will be judged on results more than anything, and of course his ability to put up a challenge against Celtic will be the biggest factor as to his success or not. It will also be interesting the backroom team that Gerrard appoints if he gets the job, as he will need to bring in people who have plenty of experience as he has in a managerial novice. Only time will tell but there is no doubt that exciting times are ahead at Ibrox.
