‘Brentford told Yoane Wissa will join Newcastle in further transfer blow’
Brentford are losing their grip on Yoane Wissa amid transfer interest from Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
The Bees have already endured a tough summer, as former boss Thomas Frank joined Tottenham before last season’s top scorer, Bryan Mbeumo, moved to Manchester United.
New Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has also witnessed last term’s club captain, Christian Norgaard, leave in favour of Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Wissa has left Brentford’s training camp amid interest from Newcastle, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest.

Brentford warned Newcastle will sign Wissa as a rotation option
Newcastle’s advances for Wissa arrive as Howe strives to prepare his ranks for the challenge of next season’s Champions League.
Speaking about the Brentford forward’s future live on talkSPORT [23 July], former Magpies midfielder Kevin Nolan said: “I think he will end up at Newcastle.
“The reason why is they’re going to have that many games, they’re going to have to swap and change.
“With [Alexander] Isak’s injuries from last season, he’ll be a real good addition to the Newcastle squad. I’ll take him.”
Wissa would be a great addition from Howe
Football Insider verdict
If Newcastle can fend off Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in the race for Wissa, the 28-year-old boasts the ability to shine in the North East.
Yoane Wissa stats | Premier League 2024/25 |
Appearances | 35 |
Goals | 19 |
Assists | 4 |
The DR Congo international notched an impressive return of 19 goals and four assists in 35 Premier League appearances last term, helping Brentford to their second top-half finish in three seasons.
Meanwhile, as alluded to by Nolan, Newcastle require strength in depth, due to the additional games they will be playing, having secured Champions League qualification.
The Magpies require a new backup striker to Isak, after Callum Wilson’s departure.
Furthermore, despite Isak’s presence, Howe can still hand Wissa game time, because the former Lorient man can also operate successfully on the wing, providing healthy competition for the likes of Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle will be desperate to avoid a repeat of their 2023/24 Champions League campaign, when they were knocked out in the group stages, while Wissa’s signature can help them progress in Europe.
