Steven Gerrard has only just begun the job at Rangers, and already he and director of football Mark Allen have a big transfer decision to make.
Turkish newspaper Yeniakit is reporting that Fenerbache are attempting to pull off a blockbuster transfer deal which would involve Alfredo Morelos moving to Turkey, with Martin Skrtel and cash coming to Ibrox.
Interestingly, Gerrard wanted to make Skrtel one of the first signings of his Rangers revolution, but the deal fell through due to the player’s wages demands.
Whilst Gerrard would no doubt like to have Skrtel at Ibrox, he and director of football must reject this proposed deal without a moment’s hesitation.
For a start, the Gers can’t even consider selling Morelos until they bring in another striker to the club, and perhaps Gerrard sees Morelos as a key player for him going forward – after all, he was top scorer for the Gers last season.
Secondly, with the signing of Nikola Katic and the impending arrival of Connor Goldson, the need to sign Skrtel isn’t as great as it seemed when the Gers first expressed an interest in the player.
Lastly, the amount of money that Fenerbache are offering in the deal may be nowhere acceptable to what the Gers value Morelos at.
This proposed deal has no real value to the Gers, and it should be rejected as soon as it is made official.
