Aston Villa are bidding farewell to Grealish after two major developments -Whelan

Noel Whelan has claimed the “writing is on the wall” Jack Grealish will leave Aston Villa this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former striker suggested the Villans’ transfer plans made clear the club are preparing for the 25-year-old to go.

As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (July 23rd), Grealish has agreed personal terms with Manchester City after being offered a “huge” contract.

There is still some way to go before a deal is struck, with City ready to offer £90million for the boyhood Villa fan.

Meanwhile, this site revealed on Wednesday (July 21st) Villa are in advanced talks to sign Norwich City playmaker Todd Cantwell.

Whelan admitted the 23-year-old is “very much like Grealish” in terms of his playing style.

He suggested the Norwich star’s arrival would signal the inevitable departure of the current Villa ace.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You’ve got to say you do feel that somebody’s got to give him that side for Cantwell. If he does join, you feel somebody will be leaving to recuperate a lot of money.

“Cantwell is very, very like Grealish, shall we say? As much as it’s exciting, it’s a little bit worrying as a Villa fan as well. You could lose your star man and captain.

“I think that’s probably why Aston Villa have gone very heavily, very quickly into the transfer market, bringing in these midfield players.

“It does kind of leave the writing on the wall a little bit that they’ve gone very heavy on two midfield players from Norwich.

“On one side, you’re excited but on the other hand, you’re a little bit wary, a little bit worried, that you’ll be losing your star man.”
