Leading bookmaker SkyBet have made Chelsea very short favourites to complete a shock move for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater .
The Mirror reported on Friday that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was “seriously interested” in the midfielder, who won the Premier League with Leicester.
They also reported that Drinkwater himself was going to ask his club to push the move through.
On the back of this news, SkyBet have now installed the defending Premier League champions as just 1/2 to complete the shock move in the summer transfer window.
There are no other potential suitors according to SkyBet, who rate the move as highly likely to happen.
Their odds of Drinkwater staying at Leicester for next season are 6/4.
Drinkwater made three appearances for England on the back of Leicester’s title win and he will be hoping to break back into the squad if he can forge a successful move to Chelsea.
Football Insider verdict:
This would be one of the summer’s more unlikely transfers, but we think it would make a great deal of sense for the defending champions. They might be more used to links with players of a higher calibre, but Drinkwater is an England international (and Chelsea could do with more English players) and still in the peak of his career. He came through he youth ranks at Manchester United and this could be his last chance to break into the big time. The player himself is keen on a move and Conte is “seriously interested”, which leaves the ball in Leicester’s court. The player is under contract until 2021 but the Midlands club might be keen to cash in and get a bumper payout from Abramovich with time still to invest in new players before the window slams shut.
In other Chelsea news, a four-year deal was signed as this defender left the club.
