Rangers have emerged as odds-on favourites to sign Swansea forward Oli McBurnie in the summer transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
BetVictor have priced the Gers at 1/2 to snap up McBurnie, 21, in the coming months after the Sun reported that the Scottish club have tabled a bid worth £4million for the Scotland international.
Leeds were originally favourites to sign the in-form striker after a prolific spell on loan at Barnsley, however the running has now changed and it is the Gers who are in pole position.
Football Insider verdict
McBurnie would be a brilliant signing for Rangers, but how much of their budget will be depleted by that £4million bid? Steven Gerrard is widely expected to ring the changes this summer and that could mean that he would try to cash in on a number of the exiting first teamers at Ibrox who have let the fans down this season. Alfredo Morelos is without doubt the most sellable asset while Josh Windass and James Tavernier could also fetch a decent fee. The Gers may have to sell in order to strengthen but with them looking at the free market to sign Scott Arfield and potentially Allan McGregor, there’s a chance that they could go big on one or two players and then make up the rest of the team with freebies or loan signings. McBurnie may well be one of those big money signings and it would certainly be a great way to start the summer by getting him in.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are firmly in the running to sign this £120,000-a-week Liverpool star in the summer.
