Newcastle are set for a huge game in the Premier League on Saturday as they play a Bournemouth side just three points ahead of them in 10th.
However, Paul Merson’s column doesn’t make for good reading for Newcastle fans and he’s predicting a narrow 2-1 win for the home side.
A win for Newcastle could take them up to 10th if all the results go their way but a defeat could inch them close to the trapdoor – that’s how tight things are in the middle of the Premier League table.
Newcastle fans will be hoping to see new striker signing Islam Slimani after the deadline day recruit has been unable to shake a knock up to this point.
However, writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson has predicted that Bournemouth will have too much for Newcastle.
“This is a big, big game,” Merson said.
“If Newcastle win they bring Bournemouth straight back into the relegation mix, even though they looked out of it near the top half a few weeks ago.”
“Newcastle have fared well recently but if Bournemouth, with home advantage, reach the levels they did before their shocking defeat at Huddersfield I think they will just have too much.”
Newcastle travel to the south coast to play Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon in a 3pm kick-off.
