'Crazy', 'Better than Dummett' - Newcastle fans react as 22-year-old is reportedly set to leave

By Will Butcher

Newcastle fans are outraged on Twitter after reports suggested their club were set to allow Kevin Mbabu to join Young Boys on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old defender spent the entire 2016-17 season on loan with the Swiss Super League outfit, helping them qualify for the Champions League in second place.

FourFourTwo, ITV and Guardian journalist Kristian Heneage revealed that Mbabu was set to sign a three-year deal with Young Boys last weekend.

Mbabu, a two-time Switzerland Under-20 international, has just 12 months remaining on his current St. James’ Park deal but is now expected to leave this summer.

Moving to Newcastle in January 2013, Mbabu managed just five senior appearances for the Toon’s first team despite being able to play anywhere in the back four.

Newcastle fans are disappointed with the club in allowing the promising former Rangers loanee to leave Tyneside, with a deal likely to be completed in the near future.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Naturally a right-back, Mbabu is behind DeAndre Yedlin and Jesus Games in the pecking order with Holland international Vurnon Anita set to leave on a free transfer.

In other Newcastle transfer news, this £15million-rated Premier League defender is available for a summer move.
