Gerrard poised for Rangers swoop on record-breaking PL teen sensation with seven caps - report

Rangers are putting the disappointment of the Martin Skrtel deal behind them as Steven Gerrard targets a number of young Anfield stars to kickstart his Ibrox revolution, according to a report.

The Express claims that Jurgen Klopp has said he will help Gerrard with players wherever possible and the former Liverpool midfielder is set to test that as he wants up to four Anfield stars of the future on loan.

The report says that Gerrard wants Wales teen sensation Ben Woodburn, who the Express say is “one of the Reds’ most promising young talents”.

He is already their youngest goal scorer and has been capped for Wales seven times.

Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent are two other players that Gerrard has his eye on.

The fourth Liverpool player to be linked is Dominic Solanke, but the Express claim that he is not top of their list for strikers, with Oli McBurnie said to be a top target.

Football Insider verdict:

The report claims that no decision will be made on Liverpool players until after the players return from pre-season. That leaves plenty of time for more fevered speculation, although no doubt Gerrard will be aware of who Klopp is likely to let out on loan. The fact is that all four of these players would be exciting additions for the Rangers side, with Woodburn and Wilson the ones who most fans would like to see sign first. Solanke hasn’t made much of an impact in the Premier League but he would surely shine in the Premiership. Wages could be an issue with that one though. Klopp has said that he will help Gerrard out but let’s be clear here… this isn’t an altruistic act. Klopp is a canny manager and he knows there isn’t a better place for his youngsters to develop than under Gerrard, who they all know very well, and with the lure of European football and the tinderbox atmosphere of Ibrox. It’s like a mini Anfield and a season there would do them all a lot of good and tell Klopp whether they’re ready for the Liverpool first-team next season.
