Arsenal’s move to sign Borussia Dortmuch winger Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been hit with a blow as the German club have rejected their opening offer, according to a report.
The Daily Mail revealed that the Gunners have made an initial attempt to sign the Gabon international with a £44million offer – confirmed by Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.
‘I can confirm that there has been a first request from Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyan,’ said Watzke in the Daily Mail.
However, the Bundesliga outfit are wanting a fee in the region of the £53m for the forward which could be altered if striker Olivier Giroud is thrown in as part of the deal.
Aubameyang has been dropped for Dortmund’s last two Bundesliga outings as speculation mounts that the 21 goal hitman could be on his way to north London.
Football Insider verdict:
Why is it that Arsenal’s transfer business never seems to go smoothly or simply? It seems that this particular move is no different. Something tells us that not only will this deal drag out until the very final moments of the January transfer window but it may not even happen at all. With Arsenal’s and Arsene’s tendency to drag their feet as well as a reluctance to spend great sums of money for the best players, it could happen. Dortmund may want more cash, but it is unlikely the Gunners will be held to ransom by the Germans.
