Paddy Kenny moots 'financial trouble' after Firpo news from Leeds
Leeds United may have benefited from Barcelona’s “financial trouble” after making Junior Firpo their third summer signing.
That is according to ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the deal was confirmed on 6th July.
Football Insider revealed three days earlier that the 24-year-old left-back was jetting into England to undergo a Leeds medical.
That was after this site first broke news that Leeds had a £12.8million bid accepted for the former Spain Under-21 international.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire told this site in May that Barcelona “have big debt problems and will be looking to constrain their wage budget.”
Firpo became Leeds’ third summer capture after the signings of Amari Miller and Jack Harrison.

Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I’m sure if he’s come from Barcelona he’s a very good technical performer.
“We know what these young Barca players are like. I’m sure Bielsa has done his homework on him.
“For Leeds to be signing a Barca standard of player, it shows where they’ve set their sights.
“They [Barcelona] are in financial trouble at the moment, so that might have had something to do with it.
“I’m sure he’ll be a brilliant signing for them. It will definitely be interesting to see how he gets on there.”
Firpo played 18 times for Barca last season but just seven of those appearances were starts.
He is Leeds’ third signing of the summer window after completing deals for young attacker Amari Miller and Jack Harrison in recent weeks.
