Man United deal for Sancho may open door for Leeds to sign long-term target - Phillips
Long-term Leeds United target Dan James will “almost certainly” leave Manchester United this summer.
That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old’s future ahead of the imminent arrival of Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford.
This site revealed on 26th June that United could tie up a £77.5million deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho within days.
The arrival of the England international could be bad news for Dan James, who was a bit-part player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season.
Football Insider revealed last year (29 September) that James was one of Leeds United’s top targets but the winger opted to remain in Manchester.
Phillips suggested the door may have re-opened for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

“When Manchester United are paying close to £80million for a player like Sancho you expect him to be playing every week,” he told Football Insider.
“Dan James did not play an awful lot last season and you imagine the arrival of Sancho will see him fall even further down the pecking order.
“James is a player who may be allowed to leave on loan. He needs to play regular football now.
“He showed in the Euros that he can hurt teams.
“I almost certainly expect him to leave Old Trafford this summer. I would guess he would leave on loan at the very least. Leeds are a possibility.”
