'Typical journeyman' - Newcastle fans react to reported potential swap for rapid winger

By Danny Wright

Newcastle have been linked with a potential move for Derby’s Tom Ince which could see Grant Hanley go the other way – and the Toon Army don’t know what to make of it.

The Mirror reported on Wednesday that Hanley could be used as a makeweight for Ince, who is understood to have been made available by Rams boss Gary Rowett.

It is understood that a £4million bid was made for the Magpies centre-back and that an offer over at least £10million would enough to steal the rapid winger away from Pride Park.

The Newcastle supporters seem to be split on the news though, with some excited by the prospect of Ince, who is a product of Liverpool’s academy, and others saying that he isn’t good enough to take the step up to the Premier League.

Ince, 25, has just 15 top-flight appearances under his belt from spells at Hull and Crystal Palace but has made a habit of finding the net in the Championship and is Derby’s top scorer this term with 15 goals in all competitions.

Hanley, on the other hand, appears to be someone that is on the fringe of the Magpies squad and could face a tough time in getting first-team appearance next season.

Rafa Benitez is likely to make big improvements over the summer to ensure that his side enjoy a successful return to the big time.

Mike Ashley has recently offered the Spaniard his full financial backing to ensure the club don’t suffer a third relegation under his ownership.
