Newcastle jet out on transfer mission for £13m midfield colossus loved by Barca – report

Newcastle United have sent scouts to watch Real Betis youngster Fabian Ruiz, according to a report.
El Confidencial claim the midfielder, 21, has gone from being a squad player to the “jewel in the crown” at his club.
They claim that he has a release clause that is set at £13million and that Betis want to extend his contract and raise the price of the clause.
His agent doesn’t want this to happen and the two appear at an impasse, with the player already contracted until 2020.
The 6ft2in midfielder has been attracting attention from a host of elite sides, including Barcelona.
The report claims that Barcelona scouts have given excellent reports of the player and say his talents have no limit.
Recently, scouts for Newcastle, Arsenal, West Ham, Everton and Chelsea have been watching Ruiz regularly although no official interest has been noted.
Ruiz has been a mainstay in the Betis side this season, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals.
Football Insider verdict:
A number of sides are keeping tabs on Fabian Ruiz and will be watching the contract negotiations between him and Betis carefully. His agent doesn’t want to raise his release clause which makes him affordable to any of the big clubs currently watching him. Newcastle might be the exception. They’re struggling to find the money to buy any decent players at the moment and £13million for an unproven youngster, no matter how talented, might be a step too far.
