Odds slashed dramatically as shock name joins favourites to become next Rangers manager
There could be a massive shock in store at Ibrox as Steven Gerrard has had his odds slashed by bookies to replace Graeme Murty, according to the Scottish Sun.
The Liverpool legend was priced as an outsider for the job at 25/1, but his odds have been slashed down to just 8/1 to take over if Murty is given the boot.
He joins the favourites at the top of the betting, with Ostersunds boss Graham Potter currently the 4/1 favourite with ex-Ibrox star Frank de Boer at 5/1.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is 6/1 with Alex Neil, Robbie Neilson and Gerrard all priced at 8/1 while Killie boss Steve Clarke sits just behind at 12/1.
Football Insider verdict:
Lots of names will be linked to the Rangers job until an announcement is made about Murty’s future. Rangers would be well advised to make an announcement after the Old Firm clash at the weekend – as much for Murty’s sake as the fans. Gerrard is an interesting name but it would be hard to believe that the Liverpool legend would cut across the Glasgow lines and take up his first managerial role at Rangers. What a story though…
