Kevin Phillips is adamant Bright Osayi-Samuel will leave Queens Park Rangers in January after the winger was left out of Mark Warburton’s squad to face Barnsley.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested that the 22-year-old has ‘made his intentions clear’ to QPR that he wants to leave next year.
Football Insider revealed yesterday that the Nigerian attacker has rejected the London club’s latest offer of a new and improved contract, casting doubt over his future at Loftus Road with just eight months remaining on his current deal.
Osayi-Samuel, who was the subject of interest north of the border this summer, started all seven of QPR’s previous seven Championship matches in 2020/21.
Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers are joined by Leicester City, Fulham and Brighton in the hunt to sign the right-winger on a pre-contract.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Osayi-Samuel’s future, Phillips said:
“QPR have not started the season very well and you would presume that one of their best players would be starting the game, let alone being left out of the squad.
“It suggests that he has made his intentions clear – that he wants to leave the football club. “If he has been approached by Rangers, there could be something going on in the background.
“It is a shame because I want to see the kid play but sometimes this happens.
“To be left out of the squad when your team is struggling in the Championship suggests to me that it is a no brainer, he will be moving on in January.
“If that is up to Rangers I am sure he will shine up there because he is a superb player.”
