Phillips Exclusive: Tottenham tipped to blow Arsenal out of water after huge transfer reveal

Kevin Phillips fears Arsenal will struggle to compete with Tottenham and other top European clubs in the transfer market after a torrid start to the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, former England international claimed that even Everton would be a more attractive proposition than the Gunners right now.

RB Leipzig are close to winning the race to sign Arsenal and Spurs target Dominik Szoboszlai, 20, from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Gunners hoped to sign Szoboszlai next year but faced stiff competition from the German side for his signature.

The attacking midfielder is one of Europe’s most coveted talents following a sensational start to the 2020/21 campaign which has yielded eight goals and nine assists.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the the Szoboszlai transfer situation, Phillips said:

“I think Arsenal will struggle to compete with the likes of Spurs in the transfer market.

“I have been massively disappointed with Arsenal this season. I do not see where they have improved under Mikel Arteta, at all to be honest and you can see that just from looking at where they are sitting in the league.

“If I am a top European player like Dominik Szoboszlai I would certainly be looking at other clubs way before an Arsenal. I think you would even look at an Everton ahead of an Arsenal right now because you never know what you are going to get with them right now.

“There is lots of work and wheeling and dealing for Arteta to do in January.”
