Pundit warns of 'deal-breaker' in Aston Villa bid to sign Bailey after Arsenal reveal
Noel Whelan has warned signing Leon Bailey could be “detrimental” to Aston Villa after Arsenal dropped their interest due to attitude problems.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the winger’s professionalism could be a “deal-breaker”.
As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (June 23rd), Villa have had a £30million offer for the 23-year-old rejected by Bayer Leverkusen.
However, a source has told Football Insider the Gunners pulled out of the pursuit after learning of “attitude” problems during their background checks.
Whelan insisted Arsenal were right to drop interest if there are issues.

As such, he suggested Villa would be taking “a chance” on his signing.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “As a player, you can have all the talent in the world.
“But if you don’t have the right attitude, that’s the key.
“That could be a deal-breaker straight away because it’s all about fitting into the group of players you’ve already got.
“You don’t want any mavericks who think they’re bigger than the team or individually better than anybody else. It’s a collective. Everyone’s got a certain talent they bring to the party.
“When you question people’s character and there’s a question mark over it from one side then you’ve got to stay away from that.
“If another club is quite happy to go along with this player and take the opportunity and that chance, then you got to leave them with it.
“Character and attitude is vitally important when it comes to building a squad.
“It’s not just a team but a squad of players that everybody fits into. That jigsaw piece and that jigsaw puzzle is whole and collected together.
“If you don’t get that togetherness and get some people a little bit more lairy, a bit more whingy than others, then that that can be detrimental to the whole squad.”
