Rangers left it late to see off Partick Thistle in the 3-1 Scottish League Cup win last night.
The Gers needed two extra-time goals to book their place in the last four but managed to get there in the end.
Pedro Caixinha made a number of changes to his side with one eye on Saturday’s Old Firm clash – bringing Jak Alnwick, Declan John and Carlos Pena into the starting XI – but it was a team who had the same old problems.
Goals from Carlos Pena, Eduardo Herrera and Daniel Candeias eased the Gers into the semi-finals but it was recent loan signing Declan John who stole the show with his constant bombing forward and tantalising crosses.
The Welshman was eventually taken off with a calf knock but he impressed Rangers fans with his attacking intent and ability to breeze by opposition defenders.
Which takes us into the first of three things we learned from Rangers’ win over Partick.
