Pundit claims Rangers boss Gerrard will land the Liverpool job as contact predicted
Premier League clubs will “be in contact” with Rangers boss Steven Gerrard this summer but his next job will be at Liverpool.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Athletic reported last Tuesday that Gerrard is on Everton’s shortlist of candidates to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Gerrard’s stock is high after guiding Rangers to a first Scottish Premiership title in a decade with an undefeated league campaign.
However, this site revealed last Friday (4th June) that Nuno Espirito Santo is the favourite for the Everton job and would hold talks with the club that day.
The Atlhetic also reported on 29 May that Gerrard was being considered for the Wolves job vacated by Espirito Santo.
But this site understands that Bruno Lage is their preferred candidate and on 2 June revealed that he had been granted a work permit.

Phillips rubbished the Gerrard-to-Everton talk, claiming that the 41-year-old is keeping his powder dry for when the Liverpool job becomes available.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “Maybe they’ll be in contact. But I just don’t see Steven Gerrard leaving.
“He wants that Liverpool job eventually and he’ll get it next if he continues his work at Rangers.
“Would he want to leave and go to the Premier League? Yeah, of course he would. But I think at the minute he’s enjoying life up there.
“He’s comfortable, he’s building something, why would you wanna leave that at such an early stage in his career?
“Particularly with Everton, I just don’t see that one, to be honest. Why would you move to a rival club? I think he’ll be at Rangers next season.”
