Rangers close to two huge deals, club expects them on board before Gerrard starts – report

Rangers are close to signing two stunning new deals and the club expects to have both players in place before Steven Gerrard officially starts on June 1, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claims that Rangers have almost agreed a £2.7million deal to bring centre-back Martin Skrtel in from Fenerbahce.

The former Liverpool defender is understood to be set to sign a three-year deal.

Current Liverpool winger Harry Wilson is also close to signing on a one-year loan deal.

Talks with both players are reported to have gone well and both deals should be completed in the next week.

Football Insider verdict:

Rangers have already made two good signings in Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor, with Jamie Murphy’s loan deal being made permanent. However, these two would be next-level deals that would seriously improve the Rangers set-up. Skrtel is a proper centre-back, no-nonsense, still at the top of his game, and with experience at the highest level. Wilson is the opposite, young, keen, exciting, and with his best days in front of him. He’s had such little exposure that it’s easy to forget that he’s actually 21-years-old, no spring chicken and more than capable of slotting in and doing a job straight away. Celtic would love a player of his ability and will be worried at the quality of signings Gerrard is bringing in. The next step should be a quality striker, and we’re not talking Cummings here. The Nottingham Forest loanee can do a job as back-up but Rangers need much better to be challenging Celtic at the top of the table.
